Where art finds its audience
For years, I submitted my work to open calls. Some galleries were wonderful – but some… Silence after submission. A generic message, if you heard back at all. The feeling that no one had really looked at your work. Discrimination based on age, experience, where you come from. No connection, just a transaction.
At some point I said: okay, I’ll build what I was looking for.
Marea Gallery is an online gallery for artists from around the world. No shipping costs, no logistics, no “send your work at your own expense to a gallery that fifty people will visit”. A small submission fee covers the operational costs of the gallery, and in return your work travels digitally and reaches far more people than any local exhibition. No discrimination based on age or experience. Only one thing matters to me: do you have something to say.
When I jury submissions, I look at the work and the story behind it. Because a painting is not just technique, it is a piece of you. Something you chose to show the world, and that takes courage I deeply respect.
That is why every participant, selected or not, receives a place in the catalogue and the video presentation. No one goes unseen.
And the name is not a coincidence. My roots are by the sea, the sea fills me, clears my head, lifts me. I wanted the gallery to carry that same feeling.

Marea Gallery is curated by Tamara Perusic – a Croatian fine arts graduate, painter and entrepreneur. Her work combines figurative and abstract expression, with recurring motifs of nature, animals and the sea. She brings the same personal eye to every edition of Marea looking not just at technical execution, but at the story behind every work.
